SUMMARY:

Mad Mimi is an email marketing service which does things so differently that compared to all other services might appear as look-a-likes, and it is not just about the look. Behind the delectable look of the website and interface there is a different approach to the service, too. Originally founded as a startup in NYC, by a couple who did not like what other email platforms offered them, it is now part of GoDaddy, one of the world’s largest web hosting providers.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Mad Mimi is a fresh, and we should say, entry-level email marketing service appealing to people who find email marketing boring, yet necessary to make their business grow faster. Mad Mimi boasts quick campaign set up and highly customizable templates (called “themes”) but there are certain limitations, too.

A free plan with unlimited sending is a very rare thing, primarily because, even if it would be financially viable for the provider, would make it subject to spam abuse. Mad Mimi, however, offers that opportunity for shorter lists – those of up to 100 contacts, and the content is frequently reviewed by the staff to prevent spam response and maintain the service’s reputation.

If your list has more than 100 contacts, you will get email service for a good price, and all plans, even including the free ones, include the same features, and there are no addons. Plans for up to 50,000 contacts allow unlimited sending, while larger ones allow you to send ten times the list length limit in the chosen plan, i.e. if you subscribe for a plan that supports up to 75,000 contacts you will have 750,000 credits per month.

Features, which are the same across all plans, even including the free plan, are:

Autoresponders: Basic functionality, you can set up confirmation emails for just some basic actions made by contacts: such as page opens and clicks, filling forms, transaction confirmations, and changes in personal preferences. There are also interval and event-based messages defined by the recipient info, but nothing more than that.

Analytics and Reports: Good analytics and reporting suite provides info about mail success; there is a lack of some advanced features, but there are five integrated tools (including Google Analytics) making analytics from Mad Mimi campaigns very useful.

Integrations: Besides these five analytics integrations, there are more than 90 others, which include all notable business assistance services, CRM, CMS, social media, and those for sign up forms, file sharing, eCommerce, videos and others. There is a Zapier integration, which connects your Mad Mimi account with even more integrations. The Mad Mimi’s API enables programming custom integrations for your very specific needs.

Testing: There are no testing suites in Mad Mimi. If you want to make split tests, such as the A/B test, you can only do it manually using the list segmentation tools.

Email Creation And Sending

Mad Mimi has a different approach to template selection than most providers. These are organized as ”themes” that can be combined with “color schemes” and personalized by adding user company’s logo, photos and other graphics. These templates may look generic, and radical changing of a “theme” requires coding. Themes are purpose-defined: newsletters, promotions, deals, and so on. Though there is a drag-and-drop email editor, it is mostly useful for added content such as images, logos, and blocks of text. This can be seen as limitation, but the main intentions of those who created such interface is to make the whole procedure quick and straightforward.

Themes are not responsive, so you should try to make your own or download third party responsive themes built specifically for Mad Mimi. Also, take advantage of the unlimited image hosting space.

There is no computerized spam checker for the content you create. Instead, your emails and newsletters go through a human review which takes place when you’re starting a new campaign, and when recipients start frequently marking your messages as spam.

List Options

As with most email service providers, Mad Mimi lets you import contact lists as CSV, VCF, and Excel file formats, manual entering or pasting from another document. “Hard” bounces and other addresses detected as invalid are automatically removed from the list. The same will happen to duplicates and unsubscribers. The list manager enables for multiple lists to be created, paving the way for manual segmentation.

Bottom Line

Mad Mimi is one of the most affordable platforms for email marketing. The fact that it has a different approach to the whole thing may be a drawback, but it also can be beneficial.
