SUMMARY:

Philips Sonicare's ProtectiveClean 5100 HX6950/60 is a decent electric toothbrush equipped with the basic features to optimize your oral health care: a smart timer with QuadPacer, pressure sensor, unique brushing modes, and long-lasting battery life.

Aside from its common features, Sonicare has added an extra to ProtectiveClean 5100 called BrushSync. It essentially reminds you to replace your brush head so your oral health care quality will always be at highest.  This "feature" doesn't really assist you while brushing your teeth but does remind you to change the head. We felt that this was just as much to get you to buy more heads as it was for your benefit as most people will notice when the cleaning isn't the same as when it was a new head.

The drawback of 5100 is its price when compared to other models and companies. Overall it is not a bad toothbrush but for the price there are a lot better options out there.

Look/toothbrush at a glance

Upon opening your new toothbrush, you will get the sleek looking 5100 toothbrush,  a G2 optimal gum care brush head, a W2 Optimal White brush head, a charging station, a travel case, and an instruction manual.

At first glance, you will be impressed with the nice color quality as it is a nice looking toothbrush. There aren’t as many fancy colors as this toothbrush only comes in black and white, but they do have a nice finish to them.

Holding on the electric toothbrush is comfortable in your hand. It has extra grip, so it will not slide out of your hand while brushing. Also, the handel's water-resistant case is a great advantage if you enjoy brushing while in the shower but comes as a feature that pretty much every electric toothbrush today offers.

It is also worth noting that ProtectiveClean 5100 has a nice power button and dedicated cleaning mode indicators that will flash depending on the brushing option you choose.

Brand Quality

One of the most notable addition Sonicare has made to ProtectiveClean 5100 is the BrushSync technology. Although this feature seems to be more expensive than the regular ones, missing this great feature has its drawbacks as well. For instance, if you like a smart tool that will remind you to replace your equipped brush head every three months or less, the BrushSync got your back.

Overall Amazon Reviews

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 is one of the all-time favorites of beyond satisfied customers from Amazon – gaining 4.7 stars out of 5, isn't that an impressive rating from 11,800+ customers? In the comments section of the product page, most customers are comparing the electric toothbrush to DiamondClean with added features. Overall, ProtectiveClean 5100 is certainly enjoying the good reputation it has established in the world of oral health care.

Performance

Battery

Inside the model is a Lithium-Ion, currently the most efficient and powerful battery used by many portable devices. It gives you 2 weeks or more battery life, depending on use. After you see a flashing amber light with three beeps from 5100, you may want to plug in the issued charger by Philips Sonicare. Once plugged in you can be left it on the charging station. Note that a green color will flash from the electric toothbrush once it is half bar full, and another solid green if it is fully charged.  This is nice as it is good to know how much charge you have if you are planning a trip or weekend out.

Features

  • QuadPacer with SmarTimer

With ProtectiveClean 5100, you do not have to set a timer and track how long you are brushing. The timer is always set to two minutes (depending on the brushing mode), and the QuadPacer makes sure all four sections of your mouth are thoroughly cleaned.

  • Pressure Sensor

People using a manual toothbrush often apply too much force in their teeth to speed up plaque and dirt removal. However, this action inflicts damage and weakens your delicate teeth. That is why ProtectiveClean 5100 is equipped with a Pressure Sensor which warns you if you overbrushed.

  • Three Cleaning Modes

The ProtectiveClean 5100 offers three different cleaning options which are: Clean, White, and Gum Care.

The Clean mode is the default mode of every Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush. It efficiently removes dirt and plaque in your teeth for two minutes.

If you want better and whiter teeth, go with the White mode. This brushing mode consists of a 2-minute Clean mode and a 30-second polishing mode.

For people with sensitive gummies, consider the Gum Care mode. It will take you three minutes to massage and clean your gums and teeth to finish a cycle.

  • Battery Life

Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 is packed with the long lasting Li-Ion battery which lets you enjoy the product for 14 days or more depending on use.

Unique Features

  • BrushSync technology

Majority of Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean electric toothbrushes have a special feature called BrushSync. This smart perk reminds you to replace your brush head after three months or less, so you do not have to worry about forgetting to get new heads. As noted above this “feature” is probably just as good for their sales as it is for your dental health.

Help/Support

Whether you seek solutions to your problems or simply want to ask questions, your go-to place is the official Philips Sonicare customer service. Starting there, kindly scroll down, and you will see "Product support contact options", and click "Personal Care", and "Electric toothbrushes." Once done, you should be able to see their contact information where you can either give them a telephone call or chat with them.

If you want to troubleshoot the problem yourself, go to their self-service tool and fix an issue found in your electric toothbrush. There is also a tab which lets you know more about your electric toothbrush by typing the correct model number. The same goes with the brush head if you are looking for the perfect replacement.
