COMPLETE REVIEW

GeoTrust was founded in the 90s, but it was acquired in 2006 by VeriSign, which in turn was bought by Symantec, one of the giants in the security software industry.

GeoTrust is based in California and it currently has more than 100,000 customers in more than 150 countries across the Globe.

Geotrust’s SSL certificates are issued instantly, enabling up to 256-bit encryption. This company provides all types of certificates, for small and large businesses alike: DV, OV and EV.

GeoTrust also offers a free trial certificate, enabling up to 256-bit encryption. You can test it by filling in a form with your personal details, email, country, company and some other required information. However, we think that GeoTrust is quite expensive overall.

SSL certificates issued by GeoTrust come with a padlock logo, the secure ‘https’, up to 256-bit encryption, the GeoTrust SSL seal and compatibility with 99% of browsers (desktop and mobile).

Another useful feature is the management console, which allows you to check the status of your certificate until it is issued, access customer support and more.

Validity periods vary from 1 to 3 years and the issuing speed is above the average.

What we didn’t see on GeoTrust’s website was a money-back guarantee, which is a common feature included by all major competitors.

The most useful certificate from GeoTrust is True BusinessID with EV. It is issued within 1 to 3 days, it comes with the green bar, 256 bit encryption, 2048-root, $1.5 million warranty and 1 or 2 years validity. If you need to protect more than one domain, you can buy UC/SAN with it and secure up to 25 domains, with a single certificate.

The Quick SSL Premium certificate on the other hand comes with a $500,000 warranty, 1 to 3 years validity, unlimited server licenses and unlimited free reissues for lifetime.

GeoTrust is transparent when it comes to customer support. You can reach them 24/7 by live chat or e-mail and they also display phone numbers on their website, in case you prefer to call.

There are also plenty of resources on their website, from FAQ to video tutorials, news and manuals.

You can also find them on social media (see above). We were overall satisfied with the support they offered.
