CleanMyMac3 is one of the most trusted and used cleaning and maintenance apps on the market today. The main reasons for that are its ease of use and the visible and immediate results. This app can clean up entire gigabytes of junk files with just some simple mouse clicks and keeps an eye on all your system’s resources. You can try the free demo version of the program before purchasing a license.

CleanMyMac3 is a cleaning, monitoring and maintenance application developed by MacPaw. The software was first released in 2009 and it is available in several languages: English, Spanish, Deutsch, French, Italian and 7 more.

MacPaw is a Mac software development company that was founded in 2008 in Kiev, Ukraine. Today it also has an office in Santa Clara, California.

Although CleanMyMac is a very popular app among Mac users, it is also pretty controversial and it isn’t allowed in the Apple App Store, on the account of being unsafe. However, you can easily and safely download it from the official MacPaw website.

System requirements: OS X 10.9 +, 62 MB space; Latest version: 3.8.6, released on August 18, 2017

CleanMyMac3 also comes in a free demo version, but it only allows you to clean up to 500 MB.

MacPaw has a 30-day money back guarantee.

This app has one of the most attractive, straightforward and organized interfaces we’ve seen so far in such products. It is very easy to figure out, it has high-quality graphics and all the tools are clearly displayed in the left. You also get text instructions and there is plenty of documentation in case you need it, but we doubt it. Here are the tools of CleanMyMac3 from top to bottom: Smart Cleanup, System Junk, iPhoto Junk, Mail Attachments, iTunes Junk, Trash Bins, Large and old files. Below those you have the utilities: Uninstaller, Maintenance, Privacy, Extensions, Shredder.

The scanning process only takes a couple of minutes if you let the app scan your entire hard drive. The duration may vary depending on your volume data as well as the reading speed of your drive.

CleanMyMac doesn’t automatically delete all the junk it finds; it lets you review them first and choose what files you want removed or not. Alternatively, you can also use the Smart Cleanup option and have them all removed at once, with a single click.

In our tests, this program proved to be very effective, as we noticed instant results and a boost in the performance of our test Mac. However, this will again vary depending on your system and the reason behind its slow speed. Overall though, we were really pleased with this app’s cleaning abilities and we found it to be really useful. You can get rid of a lot of useless photo copies, old updates and outdated backups from iTunes and a lot of other junk that you would normally ignore but builds up with time and slows down the performance of your Mac. Moreover, the program shows you clear logs with exactly how much data it has cleaned up and how much space it occupied.

Moving forward, this new version of CleanMyMac has some cool monitoring features. From your dashboard you can clean up the RAM, monitor everything related to your system’s resources and see how they behave and are being used (the disk space, memory, battery and so on).

CleanMyMac3 will send you constant alerts on possible hardware/software issues, which would normally be a good thing, except that their notifications can be annoyingly frequent.

In terms of maintenance features, CleanMyMac 3 doesn’t do anything special that can’t be handled by Apple’s Disk Utility. The app can verify the startup disk, set up repair disk permissions, reindex your Mail database, etc. The only useful thing about the maintenance tools in our opinion is the fact that they are easier to use with CleanMyMac.

Other useful tools are the Uninstaller (which lets you completely uninstall unwanted apps from your Mac, without leaving behind any files) and the Shredder (with this feature you can delete files forever, in a way that no recovery software could ever retrieve it).

The paid version of CleanMyMac3 comes in 3 options:

Single license version, which is $47.5

One license that can be used on 2 Macs: $71.3

One license that can be used on up to 5 Macs: $106.9

Just like with the interface of their app, the official website also looks very professional. You can contact customer support through their form on the website or by phone and you have a comprehensive knowledge base you can use. There is also a FAQ section and a Video section.
