Introduction

Virtual Private Networks are services which you can use to gain full anonymity while online. When using this, users can prevent websites from being able to know their true locations. This can be especially helpful if you do not want to be tracked by third parties and advertisers who may want to sell your online activities without your consent. Aside from this, it is also very helpful in ensuring that your private information will be safe even if you use a public Wi-Fi hotspot which is very vulnerable to being hacked by others.

TurboVPN is a VPN service available for both iPhones and Android phones. It is one of the popular choices for mobile phones because it offers a plan that gives access to their service for free. They also have a paid version which gives more servers for the users and allows them to use the Netflix servers. TurboVPN has high ratings both in Google Play Store and Apple App Store which suggests that most users are satisfied with the products. We will review the application’s speed, security, logging policy, and features to see if it is a recommendable product.

Security

The security of the VPN can be measured using an IP Leak test. Through here, we can test if the websites we visit are capable of getting our true IP addresses which means that the VPN we are using was unsuccessful in protecting us. Next is the WebRTC leak test which tests if the VPN was able to successfully hide the IP address of the user from the websites they visit in relation with their browser. Passing both of this is very important in ensuring that the VPN is successful in providing anonymity and must be a priority for all users.

The good news is that TurboVPN was able to pass both tests which shows that it is effective. This is what makes the service standout from other free services as most of these VPNs do not have enough security. This makes the application more recommendable.

Logging policy

The logging policy of the VPN talks about its rules about collecting user data information. To ensure maximum anonymity and privacy of users, most VPNs promise a zero-logging policy. The most that VPN users allow is collecting technical information regarding bugs and crashes that are important for developing their applications. Aside from this, everything else is off-limits. This is why it was a big disappointment to see TurboVPN’s logging policy which says that they may share the data of the user to the following: vendors and service providers, aggregate information, third-party partners, and more. This means that they are free to share your information, therefore making it harder to trust them.

Another risky of TurboVPN is that they are based in China. The country is known for having strong restrictions for outsiders, making people from outside unable to access content within their country. This is also known as the Great Firewall of China. They are also known for having strict legislations that enable the government to gain access to the information of their businesses. TurboVPN is not safe from this which means that the government may access the information of their users at any time.

This is why other VPNs like ExpressVPN and SurfShark are based in the Virgin Islands along with NordVPN which is based in Panama. This is because these countries do not have laws about data retention of their companies which enables the users of the said VPNs to gain full anonymity and security of their data.

Features

One of the common reasons for using VPNs is to remove the geo-restrictions set by Netflix for its content. Because of copyright laws and rights for the shows they provide, some of their content are only available for certain countries. PrivateVPN dedicates servers for Netflix usage for its paid versions.

Aside from this, they also allow torrenting for their users. However, they should take note that the service is only available for mobile phones which is not usually where users torrent.

Aside from this, the service does not offer much features. It does not have a kill-switch feature which automatically disconnects the gadget of the user to the internet in case the VPN fails to activate its security features. TurboVPN also does not have any adblocking or antimalware features.

Conclusion

TurboVPN is one of the best free VPN services as seen with the security it provides its users. It also can be used for Netflix geo-restriction unblocking with its paid version. However, users may be disappointed with its logging policy, its download and upload speeds it provides, and the number of features it has. Its paid version also does not compete well with well-known ones such as NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
