PROS:
CONS:
TrueCredit is a credit monitoring service provided by TransUnion, one of the three major credit bureaus in the US.
The service offers access only to your TransUnion credit report and Vantage Score, which isn’t the widely used FICO score.
Being a part of TransUnion, TrueCredit only offers access to your TransUnion credit report and credit score. However, they do send alerts from all 3 bureaus in case of any critical changes.
If you want to sign up for this service, you have to follow some simple steps. You have to provide them your personal information (full name, address, email, SSN, date of birth) and create your account.
Because TrueCredit works with TransUnion, you will get their VantageScore model. However, the most widely used score (90%) is the FICO one. The VantageScore starts from 501 points and goes up to 990 and uses letters from A to F, that correspond to different scores.
You also get access to their Credit Education Center, where you can find out a lot of useful information on credit reports, credit scores, ID theft and other financial topics.
One useful feature is the CreditLock, which allows you to lock your TransUnion credit file. This is a helpful tool for when you have a document stolen or lost, because this way you can limit access to your credit report.
There is also personalized credit and debt analysis included and a score simulator, which are useful if you want to improve your score. This analysis lets you know what factors have an impact on your score, how they can affect it and how you can improve your credit score.
In case you become a victim of ID theft, you have unlimited access to their ID theft specialists, who can guide you throughout the entire restoration process.
One of the most useful things about TrueCredit is their generous educational material on their website. They have a lot of resources that teach you useful things, from how to read your credit report to why you should use a credit monitoring service and why there are three credit bureaus.
Credit monitoring costs $19,95/month. There’s also tax for residents of New York and Pennsylvania. TrueCredit accepts payment with Visa, MasterCard, American express and Discover.
For this price you get unlimited updates to your TransUnion credit report and score, email alerts in case of critical changes (even for the other 2 credit bureaus), ID theft insurance of up to $25,000 or up to $1 million, if you are willing to pay an extra $9,95, a credit score simulator, Credit Lock and Credit Unlock for your TransUnion credit report, personalized debt analysis and credit score trending and unlimited toll-free access to their ID theft specialists.
You can check out your credit score and credit report anytime and as often as you want.
TrueCredit offers toll-free phone support, Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to midnight and Friday through Sunday, from 8 am to 8 pm.
Phone: (855) 681-3196
When you click on their Support tab you also see the ‘General FAQs’ section near ‘Contact US’. The FAQ section tackles all the basic topics, such as credit basics, log in, payment issues and so on.
