Samsung has always been deemed a reputable brand when it comes to electronics, whether it’s TVs, smartphones and so on.

Their 4K TVs are among the best-selling brands on the market and there is something unique about the image in Samsung TVs. The details and the vivid colors are what make so many people fall in love with this brand.

Depending on the screen type, the 4K TV market is still divided into two main categories of TVs: OLED and LED LCD. The latter is divided into two more categories: edge-lit LED LCD TVs and full-array LED LCD. The first category is more common and affordable but the latter offers a higher image quality, contrast and black levels.

The Q6F from Samsung, also known as Q6FN or Q6, is a budget-friendly QLED TV released in 2018. It is a great value for the money and brings some really cool features to the table, while still being affordable enough for the general consumer.

There are a few aspects to consider when choosing a 4K TV: available sizes, HDR capabilities, the refresh rate, number of HDMI ports and more. Samsung manages to do well in all these aspects which is why it is such a popular model.

Here are the main specifications of the Q6F:

  • Comes in several available sizes: 48, 55, 65, 75, 82 inches
  • The package also includes the Samsung One Remote Control, 2 AA batteries, 2 TV feet, 4 adapters for wall mount and the TV manual
  • Weight for the 65” version: 54.7 lbs. (with the stand)
  • Resolution: 3,840 X 2,160 UHD
  • 120 Hz refresh rate
  • 4 HDMI ports
  • 2 USB
  • Technology: Edge-lit LED
  • HDR support
  • Sound output (RMS): 40W
  • Bixby Voice Assistant
  • WiFi, WiFi Direct

The Q6F uses a Samsung proprietary quantum dot technology which makes the TV capable of reproducing up to 1 billion shades.

The design of the Q6F is beautiful, elegant and modern. The TV is slim, has thin bezels and the back has horizontal striations.

The Q6F uses the well-known Tizen platform and comes with pre-installed apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Videos and more.

You’ve got the Bixby voice assistant and the SmartThings app that lets you connect other appliances and gadgets in your home to the Q6F.

Performance

As we’ve already mentioned it, the Q6F is not a flagship model so you can’t expect the same quality in image and performance as with more premium Samsung TVs. However, this ‘discount’ model does offer more than enough for its price.

The Q6F comes with HDR10 and HDR10+ support, a 120 Hz refresh rate and the quantum-dot technology.

In terms of image quality, the first downside with this model is the fact that on the Q6F, Samsung skimped on the anti-reflective screen which means that if you’re watching the TV from odd angles and you’re not positioned right into the center, image will degrade and that can easily be noticed in the colors.

The 1000 nits in the Q6F make it lower in quality when it comes to brightness, compared to the Q7FN (1500 nits) and Q9FN (2000 nits).

The contrast and black levels are other areas where the Q6F can’t really compare to its more expensive siblings, because of its edge-lit LED technology.

Color reproduction on the other hand, the motion handling and the overall performance of the Q6F are more than decent considering the price of this TV set. It behaves well when it comes to gaming as it has a reduced lag. Motion is handled well, so watching your favorite sport programs or action movies will be a delight.

The average user will find the image delivered by the Samsung Q6F more than satisfying and the only way to notice the shortcomings of the Q6F compared to other more premium TVs, is to have all the models in front of you at the same time.

Overall, you can rest assured that the Q6F will give you what you paid for and it is a great value for the money. You can purchase the Samsung Q6 for approximately $1000 (the 55-inch size) and $1300 (the 65-inch version).
