MyPCBackup is an online backup service developed by Just Develop It. It offers a great number of mobile features and it features a simple, elegant design. MyPCBackup’s desktop application works better than most we reviewed and you can also handle your online account with great ease. Unfortunately, the service charges for many features and add-ons that are otherwise free with other services in our line up. Some of the features you can purchase are a priority support option which puts you at the top of the queue, a recycle bin option and a Previous Version Plus feature that allows for more flexible file versioning.

Value for money

MyPCBackup prides itself in providing unlimited storage for as many of your devices as you own, however, realistically, those terms are not completely true. Each package you can purchase gives you flexibility towards the frequency of your payments. This is good because if you have in mind you’ll only need the service for a month, it makes no sense buying the annual subscription but rather settling for a small fee. You can choose a monthly subscription or go for a half-year service package. If you plan on using the services extensively, going with the one or two year plan is the sensible option. MyPCBackup has three general packages you can choose from: Home/Pro, Premium and the Ultimate plan.

For our review, we chose to look at the Ultimate plan which allows for storage of up to 1TB. For one year of usage, MyPCBackup charges $143.28 for an unlimited number of PCs. Opting for a longer, bi-annual subscription brings the price down to $256.56 ($128.28/year). Since so far in our review, we’ve looked at the average value for large/small families and single users, MyPCBackup falls a bit short. While the Ultimate plan does offer the option of connecting all your devices to one account, you have to log out of your primary device and enter the data on the PC you wish to back up. This can be tiresome if you have several devices you wish to backup/restore. For the commodity of backing up more than one device, you can buy additional licenses at $59.90.

Features

MyPCBackup is one of the most versatile online backup services when it comes to mobile apps. The services is available across all major platforms like iOS and Android, but also Windows Phone, Blackberry and Kindle. All apps are well-designed and have a good ease-of-use. MyPCBackup has an advanced security feature not many services in our review have had, a remote wipe feature. In case of theft, this option allows you to remotely access your laptop and delete file you’ve backed up to the cloud so no one can access them.

Although MyPCBackup has some amazing features, its basic device syncing tool is very limited. Even though you can sync as many devices as you want, the data connecting them is limited to 2GB. To have more syncing freedom you are prompted to upgrade to one of the higher “packages” going up to 20GB. For more than that, you have to contact customer support and get a custom price for the desired amount of data. This is quite disappointing since none of the other services we reviewed had this type of limitation.

As with any online data backup service, we looked at how secure your data is with MyPCBackup. The service uses the most common 256-bit AES encryption during the backup and restoration of your data. From there, your previously encrypted files are then stored on Google Cloud Storage servers in Europe and North America.
