USAA or United Services Automobile Association is a renowned provider of reliable extended vehicle warranty services. They have one of the most affordable rates and flexibility in terms of coverage. This is why they are extremely sought-after by those whose original car manufacturer warranties are expiring.

What is an extended car warranty?

Extended car warranties are plans that you can purchase from a third-party which will pay for any mechanical breakdowns that may occur on the road. It also gives reimbursements for replacement parts and vehicle parts that you will need if the original ones are damaged because of circumstances not caused by the owner. It is mostly bought by those whose original car manufacturer warranties are expiring.

Although it is named as a warranty, it is technically not one. This is because it can be bought as an additional purchase after the original unit and can be bought at any time.

The coverage of extended car warranties differs upon the specific provider and contract that you will be pursuing. Before being approved, your will also be checked for mileage and model. Newer models and less mileage are almost always prioritized.

Is USAA still available?

Unfortunately, USAA does not offer any extended vehicle warranty plans as of writing. Since 2018, they have stopped accepting new members for their plans and will only exclusively fulfill contracts with owners who have purchased plans before this. They also have no further news about future plans to offer newer plans which may mean that it will never offer these again.

What did it offer before?

Back when it was still available, their USAA extended vehicle warranty services were only available for members of the USAA. For you to be a member, you need to be either an active member of the Armed Forces, a former member, or a close family member of one. This means that only a limited amount of people can be accommodated by their services.

USAA’s former plans were straightforward. They offer two plans including:

  • Manufacturer Wrap Protection
  • Comprehensive Protection

They only offer these plans for vehicles with 50,000 travelled miles or less. These plans are all connected to a third-party which is a common technicality for extended vehicle warranty providers. These plans also cover important parts such as drive axle, engine, and transmission assembly.

These plans both offer huge coverage for vehicular damage which allows users to have more confidence with their warranties. However, this may not be too friendly for those who only wants a powertrain plan or one that is only for the most important of the vehicle (which is usually the most affordable).

Features

USAA has good features that are especially friendly for military personnel.

For starters, they have a feature that allows members who will be deployed for service to have their extended vehicle warranty expiration date suspended for up to 15 months. This means that they will be able to enjoy the benefits of their warranties even after serving. This may not be the case for other extended vehicle warranties that may not be as flexible to accommodate their customer’s specific occupations. Last, they also offer $45 for these members for their oil changes when they return.

USAA also helps customers who may need to use a rental car while their vehicles are being repaired. They give up to $50 per day of using a rental car. This is available for an unlimited amount of days which is a huge difference from other companies who may give less money and may also have a maximum time limit of a week or two at most.
