There are several factors you have to consider when shopping for a washing machine. Price, capacity, dimensions, are just a few of these factors. We do our laundry several times a week or even more often than that, in some cases. That is why we have to choose a washer that can meet our specific needs.

Top-load or front-load washers?

Front-load washers tend to be a bit more popular than top-load washers, mainly because they have larger capacities, which means you can fit more laundry in them. They are also more efficient, as they don’t require as much water as top-load washers. On the other hand, they are more expensive and bulkier, so if you live in a small apartment with limited space, you might want to consider a top-load washing machine instead.

Top-load washers have a smaller capacity, but that also means they take up less space. They are also more affordable and it is easier to load your laundry in them, thanks to the door being placed on top. On the downside, they are rougher on the laundry because of the agitator inside them and they need more water than front-load washers.

Some aspects to consider when in the market for a washing machine

The most important aspects to consider are:

  • Price (top-load washers are less expensive)
  • Capacity (it is measured in cubic feet; the small washers measure around 2 or 3 cu. ft., medium and large ones around 3.5 or 4.5 and there are also some extra-spacious washers, with capacities of up to 6.2 cu. ft., which are more premium and more expensive)
  • Energy efficiency (water and power consumption)
  • Features
  • Warranty period

Whirlpool Quick Wash – Is it a good washer to consider?

Whirlpool Quick Wash (WTW5000DW) is one of the most popular top-load washers manufactured by Whirlpool.

It is a pretty basic washing machine, simple and without all the bells and whistles you see in some of the newer, smarter washers on the market, such as those from Samsung and the like. It has a minimalist interface and not the richest set of features.

Main specifications of the Whirlpool Quick Wash

  • Dimensions (D x H x W): 28 x 42-1/4 x 27-1/2 inches
  • Weight: 135 pounds
  • Maximum spin speed: 660 RPM
  • Spin speeds: 2
  • Wash cycles: 12
  • Wash/rinse temperatures: 5

Features

The Whirlpool Quick Wash is quite large in capacity for a top-load washer (4.3 cu. ft.). It has a simple design, with big dials that let you control the wash cycle, soil level and the temperature.

You can choose between 12 wash cycles: normal, deep water wash, heavy duty, bulky items/sheets, drain & spin, rinse & spin, clean washer with affresh, soak, quick wash, delicate, casual and cold wash.

There are 5 temperature settings: tap cold, cold, cool, warm, hot.

There are 4 soil level settings: extra light, light, medium, heavy.

The spin speed of the Whirlpool Quick Wash is not impressive. It only has 2 spin speeds with the maximum one being only 660 RPM.

While the Whirlpool Quick Wash may not shine when it comes to innovation or smart features, it is really good in doing its job. It cleans your laundry really well and it copes impressively with stains. The Deep Water Wash cycle and the Heavy Duty cycle are both great in that regard, although the Heavy Duty will take a lot of time to complete (1 hour and 40 minutes).

That doesn’t mean that there aren’t faster cycles, as well. The Whirlpool WTW5000DW is not called ‘Quick Wash’ for nothing. The Quick Wash cycle takes only 28 minutes to complete.

Overall, the Whirlpool Quick Wash is a pretty traditional top-load washing machine, with basic features and a common design. It doesn’t have WiFi, mobile app and other fancy features, but its cleaning quality is impressive, which should be a top priority when it comes to washing machines.
