Introduction

Sports aren’t just an effective way of taking care of one’s health and getting fit; they are also an effective way of having fun! There are many different sports. If you haven’t ever played any, then now’s the perfect time to. Governments made it clear during the COVID-19 pandemic that people who regularly exercised and took care of their health were statistically less likely to develop serious illnesses. That alone should be enough of a reason for you to take up sports.

Here are some amazing sports that you need to try (at least once):

Kayaking

Kayaking is a water sport that can be practiced anywhere, as long as one has access to large bodies of water or riverways. One of the best things about kayaking is that it’s extremely versatile. A lot of people use kayaking as a way to practice other sports, too. For example, it’s possible to fish from one’s kayak. You can find specialist inflatable kayaks designed for fishing, which are very popular with fishermen. Kayaking can also complement hiking because hikers are able to use their kayaks to take them out to more remote trails.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing is another water sport that’s very popular. It is a lot more intense than kayaking, however. It is a mix of sailing and surfing. In order to go windsurfing, you will need a large body of water, like a lake or reservoir. It’s also possible to go windsurfing in the sea. Because of the sport’s intensity, it’s a good idea to take classes in it first. If you aren’t a strong swimmer, then you should brush up on your swimming abilities first. You also need to make sure that you wear a lifejacket, in case you are thrown from the board.

Football

There are two styles of football, the American style, and the original, English style. The latter is referred to as soccer in the United States. It’s a very enjoyable sport that’s worth trying out at least once. Unlike American football, English football is a lot less aggressive and suited to people of all ages. One doesn’t have to be a hulking giant to be able to win at the game. American football is also fun too if you are interested in more aggressive, contact sports.

Basketball

Basketball is one of the world’s most popular games, enjoyed by people wherever you go in the world. If you are going to take basketball up as a sport, then you will need access to a basketball court, or alternatively, a hoop in your backyard. If there are no public courts near you, then it’s a lot easier to invest in your own hoop than it is for you to find a court. You can find basketball hoops for next to nothing online. All you need to do is to screw them into a wall, then you can start playing.

Baseball

Baseball is the quintessential American sport. Unfortunately, it’s not a sport that one can play on one’s own. Baseball is a sport that requires a group of people to play, or at least one another person to pitch a ball. If you want to start playing baseball, then it’s a good idea to sign up for a baseball club. A baseball club will make it easier for you to find like-minded people, who enjoy the sport and want to learn. It’ll also take the difficulty out of trying to convince your friends to come and play with you. Most baseball clubs are free to join.

Fencing

Fencing isn’t technically an outdoor sport, but it is one that is commonly practiced outdoors. Fencing isn’t technically its own sport, either. It is a combination of three sports, epee, the saber, and the foil. If you are a person that’s interested in swords and combat sports, then fencing is worth giving a try. The reason for this is that (if you aren’t familiar with fencing), then one beats one’s opponent by making contact with their body, with one’s sword. Fencing is a high-energy, enjoyable sport. You will likely be able to find a club in your area.

Martial Arts

There are many different types of martial arts, so it’s hard to pinpoint a single one and recommend that you try it. Martial arts, like fencing, aren’t technically outdoor sports, but because summer’s just around the corner, a lot of martial arts schools are holding their classes outdoors. If you want to meet new people, have fun, and join an international community, then martial arts is something that’s worth trying out. You can try out western martial arts styles like Krav Maga, or eastern ones, like karate, jujutsu, and kung-fu. If you are going to take up martial arts, then make sure that you find a quality school and that you take it seriously.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a very fun outdoor sport. It can be dangerous, though. In order to mitigate the risks associated with rock climbing, make sure that you sign up for classes at an indoor rock climbing center before you do it outdoors. Performing rock climbing indoors is a much safer and generally much better method of rock climbing for beginners because when you are outdoors, a simple mistake could cost you your life. When practicing indoors, you are under the supervision of trained professionals, who are paid to look after beginners and make sure that they don’t hurt themselves.

Abseiling

Abseiling is a very fun outdoor activity that usually goes hand in hand with rock climbing. It is essentially just rappelling down a vertical face. Most rock climbers will do abseiling, especially if they are climbing indoors. You can also go to professional abseiling venues. If you are going to go abseiling, then you need to make sure that you take safety precautions and practice the sport, to familiarize yourself with it. Making a mistake when you are abseiling can result in you seriously injuring yourself.

Sports are a good way to get outdoors, make friends, and try new things. If you spend a lot of your life stuck indoors and being generally inactive, then it’s worth taking up some outdoor sports. Not only can outdoor sports make you physically fitter, but they can also boost your confidence.
