4K is the new full HD and it is now an industry standard. Nobody sells TVs that have a lower resolution than that but that doesn’t necessarily mean all 4K TVs are equal in terms of image quality and performance.
How to choose a 4K TV?
The first choice you have to make, and this will pretty much be determined by your budget, is the type of screen you want for your TV. The 2 main options available today are OLED and LED LCD screens. OLED TVs are the most expensive and high-quality TVs you can find, in terms of contrast and black levels. But they are not as bright as LED LCD screens.
LED LCD screens divide into edge-lit LED LCD and full-array LED LCD. The first technology is found in most TV sets and it is the most affordable one, but full-array TVs are better in terms of contrast, but also pricier.
After you’ve decided on the type of screen, you have to consider a few other aspects: size (TVs come in many sizes, 55, 65, 75, 82 inches, etc.), how many HDMI and USB ports the TV has, whether there’s HDR support, what the refresh rate is (it is especially important for action scenes, sports, gaming), features and more.
The Q6F from Samsung is an edge-lit QLED TV with quantum dot technology which makes the TV capable of reproducing up to 1 billion shades. The Q6F is a low-end QLED TV and doesn’t possess the qualities of its siblings, such as Samsung Q9F, Q8 or Q7.
Features
The Q6F comes in various sizes, from 49-inch to 55, 65, 75 and 82-inch. The most popular one is the 65-inch version which is priced at approximately $1300. The 55-inch TV costs only around 1000.
The Q6F has a slim design, thin bezels and comes with the Samsung One Remote Control, which is called like that because it can control any devices in your household that are connected to it. The remote comes with two AA batteries.
The Q6F runs on the Tizen platform. You’ll have all the common apps installed on it already, such as YouTube, Netflix and so on.
The Q6F has voice control via Bigsby and if you want to connect other smart appliances in your home to the TV, you can do so by using the Samsung SmartThings app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
A cool feature of the Q6F is the Magic Screen. This feature allows you to turn the TV into a digital photo frame whenever you are not watching it. You can display photos or videos on it, the weather, the time and more.
The image of the Q6F is good but not the best. The biggest problem with this model is that it doesn’t have the anti-reflective screen found in more premium models such as the Q9, Q8, etc. This means that if you want the image to be good, you have to stay in the center because at more odd angles, the image will degrade, and colors won’t look as good.
The contrast and the black levels are not the best with the Q6F either, because of the edge-lit technology used in the TV.
On the other hand, the Q6F manages to keep that special quality you see in all Samsung TVs, so you’ll still enjoy the vivid colors and detailed image.
If you are into sports, gaming or action movies, you are in luck, because the Q6F has a reduced lag and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Q6F is equipped with 2 USB ports and 4 HDMI ports. There’s WiFi and WiFi Direct, and the OSD languages available are English, French and Spanish.
Overall, the Q6F is a really good option to consider in its price range and offers more than you pay for.
