4K TVs can be found in every store nowadays as they have become the industry standard. Nobody buys TV sets that only know full HD or less. With such a wide variety of choices at your disposal, it is hard to decide what to buy.

Here are some aspects to consider when in the market for a new TV:

  • HDR technology, which can be HDR10 and Dolby Vision (the latter is better but pricier). HDR is very important when it comes to a vivid, detailed and colorful image
  • What is the refresh rate? Aim for a higher number, such as 120 or 240 Hz. Refresh rate is important when it comes to handling motion, such as in action movies, sports and so on
  • How many HDMI ports does it have? At least 3 or 4 would be necessary, if you plan to connect devices such as your gaming console, Apple TV and so on
  • Size of the TV. Of course, larger TVs will cost you more, but go for at least 55 inch if possible

Samsung Q6F Overview

Although categorized as a budget-friendly 4 TV, the Samsung Q6F, also named Q6FN or Q6, continues to remain a popular choice among 4K TV customers.

It is a low-end model because it is an edge-lit TV, which is not as good as full-array, but it is not as expensive either.

The model was launched in 2018 and comes in several sizes, from 48 inch to 55, 65, 75 and 82 inches. The 65-inch version seems to be the best selling one.

Pricing

The 65-inch model can be purchased for approximately $1300. The 55-inch version costs around $1000.

The package contains the TV itself, a remote control with 2 AA batteries, the 2 TV feet, 4 adapters for wall mount and the manual.

Main specifications of the Q6F (the 65-inch version)

  • Size (W X H X D): 56.9 X 35.8 X 11.2 inches
  • Weight with stand: 54.7 lbs.
  • Resolution: 3,840 X 2,160 4K UHD
  • 120 Hz refresh rate
  • OSD languages available: English, French, Spanish
  • 4 HDMI ports
  • 2 USB
  • Edge-lit LED
  • 40W RMS
  • WiFi, WiFi Direct
  • Bixby Voice Assistant

The design of the Q6F is modern and attractive. The TV is slim and has thin bezels and horizontal striations on the back. The remote control included is also called a ‘Samsung One Remote Control’, because it can detect and control any devices connected to it.

Features

The Samsung Q6F uses the Tizen platform and comes with all the common apps pre-installed: Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and so on.

You’ve got the Bixby voice assistant and the SmartThings app that allows you to connect appliances and devices in your household to the Q6F.

The image is impressively clear and detailed thanks to the HDR technology and you’ve got a good contrast and rich colors.

The Q6F behaves well when it comes to gaming as it has a reduced lag. Motion is handled well too so you can watch your sport programs in peace.

What are not that great about the Samsung Q6F are its viewing angles. Expect to see some color degradation when you are watching the TV from other positions than the center.

Also, because the Q6F uses the edge-lit backlighting technology, the black levels are not as good as with a full-array TV.

However, these shortcomings are not really disturbing in any way to the average user and giving its price, the Samsung Q6F is a really great bargain and a great value for the money.
