SUMMARY:

It is not uncommon for a specific product which targets a certain customer group to become a major player on the overall market. Scrypt Inc. originally launched Sfax as a product for hralthcare organizations, but later it grew to became an all-round online faxing provider known for its high security standard and product versatility.

COMPLETE REVIEW

Premium online faxing services usually charge more for the feature wealth they offer, but what makes their prospects even more worrying than the price is maintaining separate counters for incoming and sent pages. In most cases, these two are equal and it doesn’t reflect the actual needs of many who experience asymmetric fax traffic. sFax is one of the few high end online faxing providers to offer combined page metering.

Sfax is on the expensive end of the whole market, but they really try hard to justify every penny invested in their services. Small businesses can choose between six monthly plans. While entry level ones offer quite poor value, the largest ones offer actually a competitive price, thus attracting large firms or small businesses that fax a lot.

Free trial exists, but it lasts only 14 days, compared to 30 days which is most common among providers who offer this opportunity. The free trial covers all six small business plans. Although now it is a multiuse faxing service provider, its healthcare industry roots are still there, so some features still appeal more to medical practices than other kinds of businesses.

NUMBER OPTIONS

Every eFax subscription comes with a local or toll-free number included. Existing numbers can be ported, but there is a $10 fee charged once the porting process is complete. The Efax number is multiport, meaning you can simultaneously receive an unlimited number of faxes leaving your number always available for more sends. The service does not offer international numbers, since there is no international faxing possible, either.

PORTABILITY AND INTEGRATIONS

eFax comes with a powerful and easy to use Web interface for sending faxes. The use of email is avoided whenever possible, which is the part of the HIPAA compliance policy which considers email insecure. To make things easy for its customers, Sfax developed a fully functional desktop app, as well as mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.

Sfax API is available to larger plan subscribers who can easily integrate their everyday working procedures  with a HIPAA compliant fax service.

Speaking of the list of supported files to make fax messages from, there is support for Word, Excel, Powerpoint, as well as comparable OpenDocument file formats and Rich Text Format. Image files supported include JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF and TIF. It comes along with normally supported TXT and PDF.

SECURITY AND ARCHIVES

Since the target customers of Sfax are healthcare organizations, compliance with patient information privacy regulations is the absolute priority for this provider. Sfax claims that they are actually the only absolutely 100% HIPAA-compliant fax provider, whilst others allegedly maintain just a minimum level of compliance. The Sfax security personnel has HIPAA certifications and has signed a Business Association Agreement which guarantees the highest level of confidentiality of public health information.

All the sent and received pages are stored for a year, and all the data is archived for 10 years. The entire cloud is based in the US, so no sensitive data would leave the country, ever.

BOTTOM LINE

This pricy service is among the best choices for healthcare organizations, thanks to the highest level of HIPAA compliance and other advanced security features. Most of such users wouldn’t mind price, since the security and privacy of patient information is not something to be compromised. Although anyone can sign up for Sfax, non-healthcare organizations should look for alternatives, since there is no need to pay extra for something that is useful only for businesses from another industry.

Pricing

Sfax pricing may not the best, but among the pricier faxing services it is not common to have combined metering of sent and received pages. Plans are more flexible than elsewhere, and for those who fax little, faxing may not be actually expensive despite the fact that the per-page value isn’t great. Note that major plans offer access to more features.

  • SOLO: 100 pages monthly for $9
  • BASIC: 175 pages monthly for $15
  • STANDARD: 350 pages for $29
  • PLUS: 700 pages monthly for $49
  • CONTENDER: 1,500 pages monthly for $99
  • PRO: 2,500 pages monthly for $159.

The Solo and Basic plans can be managed by an unlimited number of users, and offer access to system-offered cover pages. The Standard plan, along with all larger plans enables creating custom cover pages. In the end, the Contender and Pro plans offer a secure fax download service center and access to the API.

Overage cost is $0.10 per page, no matter which plan you choose.
