SUMMARY:

Simply put, the North Face Furnace 20 is a comfortable 3-season sleeping bag, at a very reasonable price. It comes with a synthetic water resistant ProDown insulation and it’s very roomy. It is not the lightest sleeping bag you can find and for some scenarios you may find it too bulky to backpack around with. Overall though it’s a durable, reliable piece of equipment and a real bargain, considering its price.

COMPLETE REVIEW

The North Face is one of the oldest and most reputable providers of outdoor gear in the US. The company was founded in 1966 in San Francisco and although it initially started as a small store, nowadays the brand is spread all over the Globe. To put it in their own words, The North Face is a ‘retailer of high-performance climbing and backpacking equipment’, dedicated to helping adventurers explore even the coldest and most challenging mountains. They have a wide range of products in their offer, from clothing to backpacks, sleeping bags, tents and more.

The North Face Furnace 20 is a mummy shaped, 3-season sleeping bag. Instead of the traditional down found in many sleeping bags, the Furnace uses a synthetic insulation, the 600 – fill, water resistant ProDown, which dries faster than traditional down, when in contact with water. The sleeping bag is certified to the RDS (Responsible Down Standard).

As for the temperature rating of the Furnace, it is 20 degrees F, with an EN lower limit of 14 degrees and EN comfort of 26 degrees. It is not the warmest sleeping bag you can find and it is definitely not a winter bag, but it does have its qualities and best of all, it comes at a real decent price. You can buy it for just $189 from their official website.

The Furnace 20 also has a women counterpart and comes in two sizes: regular and long.

This sleeping bag is more comfortable than other similar competitors, because it is roomier and wider, but of course that takes a toll on its thermal efficiency.

The Furnace 20 is a bit bulky and heavy, so if you are interested in something lighter for your backpacking trips, you should maybe look for something else.

The bag has a ‘vaulted’ foot box that keeps your feet warm and lets you move them freely inside the bag. It also comes with a draft collar and a hood; the hood could have been better designed though, because it is kind of difficult to fit it properly in order to keep you warm and still feel comfortable enough.

The North Face Furnace 20 comes with a lifetime guarantee, but even so, it’s highly unlikely you’ll need it because the bag is very durable. Not only does North Face offer lifetime guarantee for this product, but it also accepts free returns, regardless if you shop from their stores or online. To us that is a real sign of professionalism and conveys credibility.

Pricing

The men version of the bag can be purchased for $189 and the women’s furnace 20 for $219.
