COMPLETE REVIEW

As described on the official website, the Arlo Baby is a super nanny with super features. We should also add that it's also a bit 'super pricey'.

Baby Arlo is developed by Netgear, a computer networking multinational company based in California. Neatgear has offices in 25 countries and manufactures mainly products for networking, security, such as wifi routers, extenders, modems and adapters, both for home use and comercial purposes.

Here are the main specs of the Arlo Baby:

  • Dimensions: 4.3x2.6x2.5 in
  • Weight: 6 oz
  • Video resolution: 1080p HD, 30 fps
  • Video format: H.264
  • Apps: free apps for Android, iOS, FireOS and web browsers
  • Imaging: 8x digital zoom
  • Frequency: 2.4 & 5 GHz
  • Battery: 2440 mAh rechargeable battery

From design to usability, the Arlo Baby will win your sympathy instantly. The camera has an adorable design, bunny shaped, with rubber, removable, green bunny ears and feet. If you want a different animal you can also opt for the kitten or puppy monitor, for an additional cost (around $20).

This baby monitor requires you to download the iOS or Android app and create an account. The monitor uses a USB cable and has a built-in rechargeable battery. The entire set up can be done within 5 minutes or less. Once you have an account and the app is on your device, you’re all good to go. The Arlo Baby works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, too.

The Arlo Baby supports up to 5 cameras, which is a step up from the common 4 offered by most competitors.

This baby monitor offers a 1080p video quality and 8x digital zoom. It comes with two-way audio and a 130 degree field of view. It also has night vision (up to 15 feet). The image quality and colors are crisp and clear.

Arlo Baby has an impressive set of high-tech features: temperature, humidity and VOC (volatile organic compounds) sensors, nightlight, sound and motion detection, free cloud storage, 24/7 recording option, buttons that let you play lullabies and a number of customizable alerts. When an alert is triggered you can opt to take a photo, record video or take no action. There is even a baby crying alert.

The LED on the head of the bunny camera allows you to monitor the room in the dark without disturbing your child’s sleep. It comes in several colors that can be changed in the app.

One of the best thing about this baby monitor is that you can control it with your smartphone. You can connect more than one person to it which makes it easier for parents to share their responsibilities and have remote viewing and reports.

Arlo Baby comes with 9 lullabies but you can download more for free from the Arlo library or if you prefer, you can record your own voice and playback it.

Another great thing about this baby monitor is its built-in rechargeable battery that allows you to move the Arlo Baby from one spot to another, because you are no longer limited by the wall outlet.

One thing we didn’t like about the Arlo Baby is that it takes a long time (30 seconds or even a minute if your internet speed is not that good) to show you what’s going on after you receive a notification. You have to open the app, log in and wait for the image to load. Netgear should work on this aspect and find a way to reduce this waiting time.

The Arlo Baby includes 7 days of free cloud storage without subscription and if you want, you can upgrade to one of their paid plans: the 30-day or 60-day plan.

The 2440 mAh rechargeable battery of the Arlo Baby lasts for several hours, depending on many factors: usage, number of enabled features and alerts, etc. You can obtain an average of 5 hours and when the battery is low you will receive notifications.

Overall, we consider the Arlo Baby to be one of the smartest, most high-tech baby monitors on the market. While it is a bit expensive, you will get your money’s worth with this complex gadget.

Pricing

You can buy Baby Arlo on Amazon for $225. The puppy or kitten version will be an extra $19.99.
