Virtual Private Networks

Virtual Private Networks or VPNs are the solution to having anonymity while online. They mask our true location from third-parties like hackers and advertisers. By connecting to a server, we can show our location to be from another country instead of where we currently are. In addition to that, they also encrypt the data that we send so that it can’t be read by others.

SurfShark VPN

Currently, big names like NordVPN and ExpressVPN are instantly recommended to those looking for a VPN service. SurfShark VPN is a relatively new name. However, it manages to be one of the top-rated and best in terms of speed, security, and functions. It currently has over 800 servers linked to 50+ countries. It boasts specs that are comparable to bigger services.

Speed of SurfShark

In terms of speed, SurfShark manages to be one of the fastest compared to other services. Connecting to a country from the opposite side of the globe gives you speed more than half your original. This is good quality as the use of virtual private networks usually result in a slower internet speed (usually less than half).

For example, a computer can be used from the United States and connected to a country in Europe or Asia. The speeds for the latter will always be slower. With SurfShark, the decrease in speed was minimal and was enough for activities such as streaming and downloading. Of course, this will still depend upon the original speed of your internet for some users.

Security of SurfShark

One of the main reasons for getting a virtual private network is to ensure that you will be anonymous while browsing the internet. One of the red flags that usually sets a good VPN service from a bad one is their logging policy.

SurfShark assures its users that it will not be keeping track of their activities through their logging policy. As stated on their website, they do not collect information in any way. There are also based in the British Virgin Islands which does not require its businesses to store and report data to the government. This means that information such as IP address, websites you visit, time stamps, and such will not be collected in any way.

As stated in their website, the only information that will be collected from their users will be: 1) your email address which will be used for logging and account management, 2) diagnostics for reports of bugs, errors, and crashes, and 3) billing information. This means that only those needed for you to be able to log-in and confirm your identity, bug fixes, and billing information which are necessary will be collected.

Features of SurfShark

SurfShark also has a lot of features which users can take advantage of. These include:

  • Unblocking Netflix – Upon using the application, you can unblock the geo-filters of Netflix for specific content.
  • Torrenting – You are also allowed to torrent files on the internet with the VPN with good seeds.
  • Security protocols – SurfShark uses industry-standard tunnelling protocols such as IKEvs2/IPsec and OpenVPN.
  • Kill-Switch feature – This instantly terminates your connection to the internet in case your security will be breached
