A good VPN can be of great help to internet users, regardless of how they connect to the internet. Virtual private networks encrypt our data to keep it safe from online threats, they keep us anonymous while we are using torrents and they unlock geo-restricted websites such as streaming services and more.

If you want to choose a good, reliable VPN, you have to pay attention to several aspects:

  • How secure the VPN is, what protocols does it support, what kind of encryption it uses, what security features does it offer?
  • How private the VPN is; does the provider offer a no-log policy?
  • How fast is it? Did it manage to obtain satisfactory scores in speed tests?
  • How many servers does it have and in what areas/countries? Industry leaders offer thousands of servers worldwide
  • Does it allow torrenting?
  • Does it work on all the common operating systems?
  • Can it unlock geo-restricted websites such as Netflix and others?

IPVanish VPN Overview – How good is this VPN?

IPVanish is a really competitive VPN service developed by a company based in Florida. The company has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

IPVanish has an impressive number of servers, more than 1,300 in over 75 locations worldwide.

IPVanish has apps for all the common operating systems: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Linux, Windows Phone. It also works on Chrome OS, routers, Fire TV.

What is the pricing of IPVanish?

IPVanish offers three plans: a 1-month plan, a 3 months plan and a 1-year plan.

The 1-month plan is priced at $10 per month.

The 3 months plan is priced at $8.99 per month ($26.99 billed every 3 months).

The 1-year plan is priced at $6.49 per month ($77.99 billed annually).

There is a 7-day money back guarantee included with all three plans, although we consider the 7 days to be below the industry standard. There is also a free 7-day trial available, although so far, just for iOS users.

All the plans include unlimited bandwidth and unlimited server switching.

What are the features included with IPVanish?

IPVanish allows 10 simultaneous devices, which is above the average.

When it comes to security, IPVanish supports all the common protocols: IKEv2, OpenVPN, L2TP/IPsec and uses 256-bit AES encryption for your connection. It also has a kill-switch feature for additional protection and DNS leak prevention.

IPVanish boasts on a zero traffic logs policy, which means they should respect their customers’ privacy. However, this provider was involved in some scandals a few years back and it has been proved that they did in fact kept logs. Let’s hope things have changed since then, although the fact that this VPN is based in the US should pose some concerns.

Torrent users should also be pleased to find out that IPVanish is torrenting-friendly. Not only that, but they allow torrenting on all their servers. They also offer BitTorrent access without any restrictions.

As far as speed goes, IPVanish has managed to obtain some really impressive overall results in performance tests.

Moving on to its ability to unlock Netflix, unfortunately, that is not a strength of IPVanish. This VPN has failed to unblock Netflix on a lot of its servers. It does work on some of them, but does leave room for improvement in this area.

The Great Firewall of China also blocks this VPN.

There are pros and cons, benefits and shortcomings when it comes to IPVanish. This is a secure VPN, affordable, relatively fast, has a large number of servers, allows torrenting and up to 10 simultaneous connections. On the downside, it does have problems with unlocking restricted content, doesn’t block ads and has a controversial past when it comes to its privacy policy.
