Warranty Direct is a company that sells extended car warranties. The company is based in the United Kingdom and operates in the European Economic Area and in Switzerland. Even though it doesn’t cover cars in the United States, it still made number 3 in our lineup, thanks to its attractive features and benefits.
Extended car warranties tend to be a controversial topic. People usually look at them with skepticism, arguing that they are not worth it, because you might pay for them and never use them. However, it is usually not the case, although it would be good news not to need repairs on your car for as many years as possible. But the truth is that more than 90% of all vehicles on the road need some sort of repair at some point. And if that point is after your manufacturer’s warranty expires, you’d better be prepared to deal with the high costs.
What is an extended car warranty?
Extended car warranties are a written guarantee that their provider will pay for any repairs your car might need, as long as the components that need to be repaired or replaced are covered by your extended warranty. Coverage varies from provider to provider and can go from just the basic systems and parts of your vehicle up to full coverage, similar to the manufacturer’s warranty. The more comprehensive the coverage, the more expensive the warranty.
Extended warranties can be purchased from your car dealer or from third-parties. In most cases, you have to wait for approximately 30 days before the warranty becomes valid and you can use it.
Extended car warranty providers each have their requirements, so not all cars will be eligible for an extended warranty. There are some limitations in terms of car age and car mileage. In most cases, you won’t get exact quotes, you have to fill in a form on the company’s website and they’ll contact you with an offer. The form usually asks for your name, contact details, your ZIP code and details about your car (car make, model, year and mileage).
Warranty Direct Features – What does this service offer?
Warranty Direct has been around for over 20 years and it is a reputable company. It offers extended car warranties for up to 5 years (or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first).
There is a basic protection plan offered by Warranty Direct, called Core and three more extra policies you can add to it: Core Plus, Emissions System Protection and Multimedia System Protection.
The Core plan covers the engine, transmission, turbocharger, supercharger, casings, gearboxes, ECUs and computers. It DOESN’T cover: hoses and pipes (except for high pressured steering pipes), auxiliary drive belts, manual transmission clutch plate, clutch cover, release bearing, the engine covers, body work, upholstery and windows, paintwork and trims.
The Core Plus option covers the air conditioning, cooling and heating systems, ignition and fuel systems.
Emissions System Protection: this option covers the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter.
Multimedia System Protection covers the amplifiers, main dashboard unit, satellite navigation and more.
Eligibility
There are some requirements in order to be eligible for Warranty Direct’s warranty. The first one is of course to be at least 18 years old.
Another requirement is for the car not to be older than 15 years and to have a maximum mileage of 150,000 miles.
Another requirement is for your vehicle to have been serviced within the 12 months prior to the start date of the warranty policy.
