Photography is one of the most expressive forms of art. It can capture personalities, states of mind, feelings and everything that surrounds us.

They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’. Well, the pictures in this gallery are literally prize-worthy. In fact, they have actually been awarded prizes by the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards and the World Press Photo.

The 'Copacabana Palace' by German photographer Peter Bauza. The girl in the photo is Eduarda, who lives in an abandoned apartment block in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (ironically called 'Copacabana Palace', which is a luxury hotel), with 7 other siblings.
