Endurance Extended Car Warranty – Is it worth it?

A new car won’t stay new forever. Even though when you buy a new vehicle the dealership will offer you a manufacturer’s warranty, that will only cover so much and for so long. Depending on the brand, car manufacturers usually offer standard warranties up to 6 or 10 years. That means around 60,000 miles, maybe 100,000 if you are lucky. However, there are also brands that only offer up to 3 years, or 36,000 miles. That’s where extended car warranties or vehicle service contracts come in and can be quite useful.

Do you need an extended warranty?

Standard car warranties, which are included in the price of the vehicle, don’t cover every type of problem you might run into. Most of them will only cover the big parts, such as the engine, transmission and so on. But more often than not, car trouble doesn’t happen when and how you want it. If your car breaks down in the middle of the road, your main insurance only covers you in case you were involved in an accident. Costs associated with towing, general roadside assistance, workmanship for the mechanic will have to be covered by you.

And if new cars are less prone to malfunction, things are totally different when it comes to old vehicles. In fact, extended car warranties make sense the most when you buy an old car. A car with tens of thousands of miles on it is a risk for anyone and most people don’t really have a savings account for car repairs. When car trouble happens, most of them find themselves totally unprepared.

Extended car warranties are recommended for both new car owners and old car owners. For the first category, you can buy the warranty at any time, when you purchase your new vehicle or any time before the factory warranty expires. There’s also the option to buy it after that period, but it will be way more expensive. For old cars, you can buy the warranty at any time, as long as you don’t do it after your car has been damaged.

Advantages of having an extended car warranty

The biggest advantage of extended car warranties is peace of mind. It is reassuring to know that you’ll be covered in case of a breakdown and you don’t have to come up with a lot of money all at once.

Another benefit is that it is more affordable to pay for a warranty than for a costly, unexpected breakdown of your car.

Extended car warranties come with a lot of benefits, depending on the service and plan you choose: roadside assistance, towing services, in most cases a rental vehicle while your car is in the shop, money for a hotel and others.

Endurance Extended Car Warranty – Is it any good?

Endurance is one of the most popular extended car warranty services you can find. It covers the entire US and Canada and has four plans to choose from.

What does it cover?

Endurance offers up to 5 years of coverage for cars that have up to 160,000 miles. For the warranty to kick in they require a 1000- mile, 30-day wait period. Companies usually have these terms because they want to make sure you don’t want to buy the warranty because your car is already broken.

There are 4 available plans: Select Premiere, Secure, Superior, Supreme.

Select Premiere is tailored for high mileage vehicles and protects all their vital parts. Here are some of the things it covers:

  • Engine
  • Electronic components
  • Air conditioner
  • Cooling system
  • Drive axle assembly
  • Fuel system
  • Seals & gaskets
  • Transfer unit
  • Turbocharger/supercharger

Secure. Described by Endurance as their most affordable plan, Secure covers:

  • Engine
  • Drive axle assembly
  • Seals & gaskets
  • Transfer unit
  • Transmission
  • Turbocharger/supercharger

Superior. This plan has comprehensive coverage for hundreds of components. It includes all the parts covered by the other 2 plans, plus:

  • Brakes
  • Front & rear suspension

Supreme is the most expensive plan offered by Endurance and includes maximum protection for all your car components.

All 4 plans are accepted at your auto dealership and by 350,000 certified mechanics in US and Canada.

All 4 plans include 24/7 road assistance and rental car benefits.

As far as payment options go, Endurance allows you to pay in 24 monthly installments. We think it’s a reasonable offer, as other companies allow you only up to 18 months. However, some companies let you pay in 36 months, so Endurance falls somewhere in the middle.

Regardless of the plan you sign up for, Endurance offers a 30-day money back guarantee. In case you are not pleased with their service, you can get a full refund within this period.

Endurance requires you to pay a $200 repair deductible, which is not the smallest fee we’ve encountered. Other companies only ask for $100.

In case you need a rental, Endurance covers up to $35/day for up to 5 days.

Another useful thing about this service is that if you end up selling you insured car before the extended warranty has expired, you can transfer the remaining insurance to the new owner.

Overall, Endurance is generous in terms of requirements and payment methods. It is not the most affordable extended warranty service out there, but it’s not the priciest either. In order to get an exact quote, you have to fill in a form online with your car details and you’ll get an email with their offer within minutes.

Endurance offers a reliable customer support via phone, live chat and email. Their reps are really friendly and well trained and they are available 24/7.

There are also a lot of useful info you can find on their website, so you can check out their FAQ section.

Endurance can also be found online, on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google+.
