The Garrett Ace 400 Metal detector is known for being one of the most accurate in terms of finding.

Boasting 11-inch DD searchcoils, it is known for being able to look for metals up to eight levels of sensitivity. The coil is wedge-shaped and can look for metals even if buried deep. It is known for having a wide range of searching. It is also already customized before buying which makes it easier to use for amateurs.

We tested the unit and concluded that it is best for being able to identify the metals that it can detect. It was able to tell what type of metal you have found underneath. This is a big relief for those who do not want to memorize certain ID numbers dedicated to different types of metal. The screen that acts as the user’s interface is simple to understand.

It has a discrimination and notching function for you to have a wider range of possible results. Presets can also be used for you to have more accurate results.

It falls a bit short in terms of finding the actual metals. It can detect about half of all the metals we have tested it for. Although low, it is still in the average in comparison with other metal detectors that we have tested with some faring lower than Garret Ace’s score.

Depth, which is an important feature for metal detectors, can easily be seen on the screen. It is displayed through notches. Each notch represents 2 inches of underground length.

Detecting larger metals can be a problem when being shown in depth as the machine sometimes miscalculates the proximity of it. This is a very common issue for metal detectors though. All in all, it has about ten per cent of correctly identifying the depth of the metal underneath.

Design

The design for the Garrett Ace 400 Metal Detector is ergonomic. It is generally black mixed with linings of yellow. Its display is a little bit hard to see with the sunlight glaring over it. It weights at about 3 pounds. It can be put around your arm in order for you to carry it easier. It has a fabric strap which you can use to hook around the long handle. It is comfortable and light to use.

Assembly

Assembling the Garret Ace 400 Metal Detector is a bit of a tough task if you are new with using metal detectors. You will need to use some tools like a screwdriver in setting it up. The tool comes with AA batteries for you to use instantly upon opening. A weather guard is also available near the screen to prevent sunlight glare from blocking the screen. The average battery life for this is between one to two days depending on your use. It has a two-year warranty which is more than enough for this equipment.

The metal detector also comes with headphones, which is a huge plus for those wanting to get the best out of their payment.

Overall impression

The Garret Ace 400 Metal Detector is best when analyzing the specific type of metal that you have detected underneath. Its ergonomic design and user comfort are notable features for the product. It falls a bit short in being able to detect metal, though.
