Review

Hilleberg is a company which has been making tents since 1971. It was founded by Bo Hilleberg. Originally making forestry equipment as their main product, they have since moved on to making tents. They are known for creating tents that have an inner and outer tent pitched together for added durability.

The Hilleberg Niak is a durable and quality tent that can withstand rain, heat, and snow. It has a comfortable space for two people. It has a dome style top that makes it a good choice even for rainy seasons. It doesn’t get soiled easily because of its double wall design. It also uses sleeves for its two cross-poles which prevents it from being carried by intense wind.

Design

The tent can fit 2 people inside. While this is the case, a single person can also use it as a premium expedition tent because of its large space and the comfort it offers. It comes in the colours of sand, green, and red.

Specifications:

  •    Minimum weight: 3.3 lbs
  •    Packed weight: 3.7 lbs
  •    Poles: 9 mm DAC NSL: 2 X 145.7 inches
  •    Outer tent fabric: Kerlon 1000 nylon
  •    Floor: 12.000 mm

It has only one door and front vestibule. It has a dome design which makes it good for use even while raining. It has two cross-poles for the foundation which is inserted into sleeves instead of clips. These poles are locked in place by a reinforced boot and a cup. It is made of DAC Featherlite NSL 9mm. This makes it capable of withstanding heavy winds.

It can withstand heavy rain because of its 12.000 mm hydrostatic head in its floor. The tent fly is made with Kerlon 1000 along with a hydrostatic head of 5000 mm. These materials also make it more breathable.

The tent is durable enough to keep wildlife and harsh environmental factors from the user. It boasts a 20-denier nylon wall that is almost impossible to break.

The tent has two inner tents, one which is solid and another which is made of mesh. They are made to be adjustable for providing warmth or ventilation. Condensation does not occur inside the tent which further proves its high-quality. The inner tents use elastic webbing and polymer toggles. This gives enough space in between the inner and outer tent to increase space inside.

Setting it up is easy because of the freestanding model of its two crossover poles. Deploying either the solid or the mesh inner tent depends upon the temperature of the place you are camping in. About 8 to 10 stakes may be used when setting it up.

Conclusion

The Hillberg Niak is a quality tent that uses high-quality materials to keep it waterproof and durable even with heavy winds. It has a separate inner and outer tent for additional space and comfort. It can be adjustable to either allow ventilation or increase heat. It uses sleeves for the cross-poles which secures it in place better than with plastic chips. The tent can be used by up to two people. It is recommended for those with a little more budget looking for a premium tent.
