Whirlpool WTW5000DW washing machine washer top-load control panel controls dials white and gray color

While it is true that front-load washing machines tend to be more popular nowadays, it wasn’t always like this. Top-load washers used to be the main choice until the 2000s. And there are still people who prefer the simple and more traditional design of the top-load machines.

Top-load washers do come with their benefits. One of them is their price, as this type of washers is usually more affordable than front-load washing machines. Another advantage is the fact that they are more comfortable when it comes to loading and unloading your laundry. Bending every time you want to do a wash may not be so easy for every one, especially for those with joint, back problems, the elderly and so on. Another reason why some people opt for top-load washers is space saving. Front-load washers tend to be larger and bulkier and not everyone has the necessary space for them.

Whirlpool WTW5000DW top-load washer overview - is it a good product?

Whirlpool has always been an appreciated brand when it comes to washing machines and not only. The company is based in US and has an annual revenue of over $20 billion.

The WTW5000DW is a top-load washing machine that takes you back to less complicated, techy times. Both the design and controls of the washer scream ‘retro’ and will certainly be to the liking of those who value simplicity.

This model has a capacity of 4.3 cu. ft., which is quite generous for a top-load washer. It is white in color and the controls are all dials, except for the Start/Pause button, which has to be pushed. This Whirlpool washer weighs around 135, so it is pretty lightweight compared to a front-load washer. It measures 28 X 42-1/4 X 27-1/2 inches (D X H X W), so you won’t have too many problems finding a space for it.

You can’t expect WiFi connectivity, apps, touch controls and other modern bells and whistles found in higher-end washing machines, but than again, this is not a high-end washer, neither in terms of features or price. The WTW5000DW has a price of approximately $750, which is decent for this machine.

What are the features of the WTW5000DW?

This Whirlpool washing machine is quite basic but it has more than you need to thoroughly clean your laundry.

It has 12 wash cycles: bulky items/sheets, drain & spin, clean washer with afresh, cold wash, casual, quick wash, soak, rinse & spin, delicate, normal, deep water wash, and heavy duty.

There are settings for the temperature: tap cold, cold, cool, warm and hot. The WTW5000DW also has settings for the soil level: light, mid-range and heavy.

When it comes to the spin speed, the WTW5000DW is a bit below average, with a maximum speed of only 660 RPM. That means that your laundry will still have some water in it after the cycle is completed, which might extend the drying time.

One of the benefits of this Whirlpool washer is the fact that it is really good at cleaning your laundry. While there are some missing features such as the steam option or a sanitize cycle, you do get a presoak function and rinses options. In terms of rinses you can choose between one, two rinses, a rinse with softener and two rinses with softener.

The Heavy Duty cycle is the best one for great cleaning results and it takes 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. However, the WTW5000DW also has a Quick Wash feature, which allows you to do a wash in only 28 minutes.

Energy-wise, the WTW5000DW is not the most efficient washer out there, it does need a lot of water to run. You should know that this is not an Energy Star certified washing machine.

However, if you are looking for a simple, basic, budget-friendly top-washer, that does a great job cleaning your laundry but doesn’t complicate things with too many controls and features, you should definitely consider the WTW5000DW.
