Braun KF7170SI BrewSense coffee makers

There are many ways to obtain a rich flavored, irresistible cup of coffee. From espresso machines, to drip coffee makers, French presses and percolators, each type of coffee maker comes with its unique features and capabilities.

There are several factors to consider when buying a coffee maker: price, technology, size and weight, features, ease of use.

While complex espresso machines are not accessible to just everyone, drip coffee makers for instance are affordable and very convenient.

Drip coffee makers

Electric drip coffee makers or dripolators consist of just a few parts: a water reservoir, the pot/carafe where the coffee drips and a filter. The filter can be reusable (made of thin plastic or metal) and paper-based, which is disposable. The water from the reservoir goes through a hose to the heating chamber, which is usually made of aluminum. The tube is surrounded by a heating element that heats the water. Drip coffee brewers first appeared in Germany, around 1950 and were in style until the 70s, when they started to be more and more replaced by coffee percolators.

Benefits of using a drip coffee maker

One of the biggest advantages of drip coffee makers is its affordability. You can get a drip coffee maker for under $20.

They are very easy to set up and use, all you have to do is add water and coffee and you’re good to go.

Over time, electric drip coffee makers evolved a lot and they now come equipped with lots of modern features such as settings for the strength of the brew, timers and more.

Another advantage of drip coffee makers is that they usually keep the coffee warm for a longer period of time than other coffee makers. That is possible thanks to the thermal carafe found in many models of drip coffee makers. In some cases, these appliances also allow you to heat the surface below the pot, by simply activating a feature or pushing a button.

Drip coffee makers are also easy to clean, because all you have to do is wash the carafe/pot and in some cases the filter (if you don’t use disposable paper filters and choose to go with reusable metal/plastic ones).
