A delicious cup of Joe can put a big smile on your face and brighten up your day. But a tasty coffee depends on several factors and one of the most important ones is the type of coffee maker you are using to brew the coffee.

There are many types of coffee makers out there, each of them with advantages and disadvantages. French presses, percolators, espresso machines are just a few examples. But one of the most common and preferred types is without a doubt the drip coffeemaker.

What to consider when buying a drip coffee maker

The most important aspects to consider are:

  • Price (you can purchase a drip coffeemaker for $15 or less, although we don’t advise you to skimp that much, because you will get what you paid for)
  • Carafe capacity (choose the drip coffee maker according to your coffee needs and the number of people that are going to use the machine; you can find machines that have a 4-cup capacity or even more than a 14-cup carafe)
  • Filter type (some drip coffeemakers have permanent, gold filters and others have disposable ones, made of paper)
  • Features: temperature settings, alarm, scheduling option, keep warm feature, etc.

What are the benefits of drip coffeemakers?

One of the main advantages of buying a drip coffeemaker is that they are affordable. That doesn’t mean that you can’t spend more if you want to, and pay even hundreds of dollars on such a machine, if you are willing to. But if you want a budget-friendly coffee maker, you can’t go wrong with a drip coffeemaker, as you can get one for even less than $20.

Another great thing about them is the fact that they don’t have a learning curve. Drip coffeemakers are extremely user-friendly. You don’t need manuals and tutorials to use them. You just fill the water reservoir, put the coffee in the filter and turn on the machine. It’s as easy as that. The only ones you have to get used to are the extra features such as temperature settings, timer and so on, but even those are straightforward and won’t pose any problems for you.

Drip coffeemakers today are loaded with automatic features, which make them even more appreciated and useful. Depending on how much you are willing to spend, your drip coffeemaker can be equipped with a coffee grinder, it can have a feature that keeps your coffee warm, it can be programmed to start the brewing cycle at specific hours chosen by you and more.

Are there any drawbacks to drip coffeemakers?

The only disadvantage we can think of when it comes to drip brewers is the fact that they are not as versatile as an espresso machine for instance. That means that you can’t prepare as many types of drinks as you can with an espresso machine: espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, café mochas and so on.

But most people are not that picky and just want to be able to prepare they regular, flavored cup of Joe and move on with their day. And for most of us, a quality drip coffeemaker will certainly do the job.
