More often than not, healthy food is not that delicious. Fast-food is usually associated with harmful food, good only for your taste buds but not for the rest of your body. But even so, it is very hard to keep away from it, with all its mesmerizing aroma and smells.

That’s why we are going to help you be able to still enjoy a delicious burger, without all the guilt that accompanies it. Here are three recipes for home-made burgers, a healthier yet still tasty alternative to the commercial ones.

Recipe 1: Classic burger

Ingredients (4 servings):

1 pack (500g) British Beef Steak Mince 15% fat

1 egg (beaten)

1 peeled and chopped onion

½ tbsp. olive oil

4 slices Cheddar

4 white rolls

1 tsp mixed dried herbs

Lettuce leaves

1 beef tomato (sliced)

Optional: ketchup

Cook the onion in olive oil until golden. In a different dish mix the beef mince, egg and dried herbs and add the onion. Shape into 4 patties. Cook the burgers for about 5 minutes on each side. After you turn them on the other side, add a slice of cheese on each, and let it melt. Fill the buns with the burgers, lettuce and tomatoes. You can serve them with or without ketchup

Recipe 2: Green Chile Cheeseburger

Ingredients (6 servings):

1 pound ground beef sirloin (90% lean)

¾ pounds ground beef chuck (80% lean)

6 slices Cheddar cheese

½ tsp garlic powder

½ tsp onion powder

¾ roasted diced green chiles (either canned or jarred)

6 hamburger buns (toasted)

Mix the onion and garlic powder, half a teaspoon of salt and ¼ teaspoon of pepper. In another bowl mix the ground beef chuck and sirloin and form 6 patties. Sprinkle them with salt.

Cook the burgers on the grill for 3 minutes, turn them and top them with the Cheddar slices. Cook another 3 minutes, and when done, top them with the green chiles. Serve them on the buns.

Recipe 3: Salmon Burgers with Cabbage and Apple

Ingredients (4 servings):

1 ¼ pounds salmon fillets (chunks)

½ medium head red cabbage

3 green onions

Half a green apple (cut in sticks)

2 tbsp cider vinegar

2 tsp curry powder

4 hamburger buns

Slice the onions and place half of them in the food processor, with the salmon fillets, curry and ½ tsp salt. Form 4 patties. Cut the cabbage and spray it with the cooking spray and cook it on the grill for 3 minutes per side. Put cooking spray on the patties and grill them for up to 4 minutes per side (according to preferences).

Toss the sliced cabbage, apple, the rest of the onions, ¼ salt and the cider vinegar. Serve the burgers on the buns, with mayonnaise and slaw.
