Bluetooth speakers are fantastic little gadgets that can brighten up the mood in a variety of scenarios. You can buy one just to have it around the house while doing your chores, to listen to some music or a podcast. You can put it in your backpack when you go camping or you can take it with you to a party or a get together with your friends. Bluetooth speakers are small, portable centers of entertainment.
As they evolved, these cool little gadgets started to be equipped with more and more useful features: waterproofness, longer battery life, mobile app control, NFC connectivity, speakerphones and more. Blueetooth speakers come in many shapes, sizes, colors and price ranges. You can afford one even if you only have twenty bucks to spare or you can spend more than a thousand dollars on one, if sound quality and brand are important to you.
KEF Muo Overview
KEF Muo is a premium Bluetooth speaker and it is not on the budget-friendly side. Not everyone can afford one and not everyone is willing to spend that much money on it.
The speaker is manufactured by KEF, a loudspeaker manufacturer based in the UK. The company was founded more than 40 years ago and it is currently owned by GP Acoustics, a subsidiary of Gold Peak (headquartered in Hong Kong).
The Muo Bluetooth speaker was designed by Ross Lovegrove, a renowned artist and industrial designer.
Design and specs
The Muo Bluetooth speaker is seen as a tribute to the legendary KEF Muon speakers, also designed by Lovegrove. The Muon speakers won awards for their design and sound quality and are KEF’s flagship in terms of speakers. Their artistic design, the sheets of heated aluminum and the outstanding sound quality of the Muon made them iconic.
The KEF Muo Bluetooth speaker strives to maintain that elegant and high-end design and sound quality, in a significantly smaller format. The speaker is covered in aluminum, has a reflective finish and has curved edges. Its metal construction feels solid and durable and also conveys that premium look.
The Muo has the following dimensions: 80 x 210 x 60 mm (3.1 x 8.3 x 2.3 inch). It weighs approximately 1.8 lbs. and is equipped with a rechargeable Li-ion battery and a 3.5 mm AUX. It has two 50 mm Uni-Q drivers and a bass radiator, which places this speaker a bit on the heavy side. The speaker has a Bluetooth capacity of 2 devices and a Bluetooth memory of up to 8 devices.
The speaker comes in several colors: Storm Grey, Sunset Orange, Horizon Gold, Brilliant Rose and Neptune Blue.
The controls of the Muo are placed on the side, where you have the power button, the Bluetooth button and the volume buttons. There’s an additional function for the power button. When you press on it and hold it, you will be informed about the battery level.
What are the features of the KEF Muo?
The Muo can be controlled via mobile app, too. The app is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
There is also NFC connectivity available.
What the Muo lacks is a speakerphone, so you can’t answer to calls when connected to the speaker.
The KEF Muo is not waterproof either, which means it is best suited for indoor use.
You might wonder why this speaker is so expensive, given that it doesn’t come with so many features. KEF may not offer all the bells and whistles with the Muo, but it offers a super-premium design and high-quality in terms of construction, durability and sound.
The sound quality of the Muo is its biggest selling point. This speaker takes the music listening experience to a whole different level. The sound of the Muo is perfectly clear, balanced and dynamic. You’ve got the perfect balance between high, lows and mids and a rich and detailed sound that fills the entire room. There’s just something about the KEF Muo that makes it sound great regardless of the music you’re playing through it.
The battery life of the speaker runs for approximately 12 hours of playback, which is really good.

The KEF Muo Metal can be purchased for approximately $300, give or take, depending on the store and the color you opt for.
